Intelligent Carpet That Knows Your Sex

Next time you lie about your age, remind yourself to check for suspicious carpet below your feet. Researchers over at the National
Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan has
invented an intelligent carpet that is able to detect your weight, age
and gender by simply having you stroll across it.

“The
carpet’s intelligence is derived from a layer of silicone rubber with
built-in electrodes that measure the changes in electrical resistance
and current flow caused by someone walking across it.”

According
to lab test results, the carpet is very accurate as well. Determining
age between 20 and 60 yields almost perfect results, whereas
determining gender is a neat 75 percent accuracy. Weight is no big
deal, of course.

I would imagine the technology is most useful for demographic research in places such as cinemas and shopping malls.
